NAIROBI JULY 19, 2016(CISA) – Awareness Against Human Trafficking (HAART Kenya) in collaboration with PAWA254 will be hosting its second annual Arts to End Slavery exhibition in late July.
“This exhibition takes human trafficking as a point of departure and increase in meaning to a level where the artworks have qualities that touch us – in aesthetics, emotions and intellect.
It is exciting to see the different approaches, the knowledge that it reveals and the new artists that the exhibition introduces,” said Arts to End Slavery assisting curator Rose Jepkorir.
The art exhibition titled Telling their Stories will be held at Nairobi’s Shifteye Gallery and is set to coincide with World Day against Trafficking in Persons on July 30.
This year’s exhibition will run for two weeks and will focus on victims’ experiences, the organization said in a statement sent to CISA July 19.
It will be opened to the public– the UN’s annual day of awareness-raising against human trafficking, or modern day slavery.
More than 20 artists will display their artistic talents including paintings, installations, digital art, photography and video.
Last year’s event raised $4,000 while also generating a public discussion about the little-understood phenomenon of human trafficking in Kenya.
