NAIROBI SEPTEMBER 27, 2016 (CISA) – The Missionaries of Charity; Sisters, Brothers and Fathers in Kenya, on September 24 celebrated the canonization of St. Teresa of Calcutta in a thanksgiving Mass held at the Holy Family Minor Basilica, Nairobi.
“St. Mother Teresa is not only a gift to her congregation but also to the universal Church” adding that just like St. Augustine, St. Teresa cared and help for all the needy even those who are not of the Catholic faith,” said Bishop David Kamau, the Auxiliary of the Catholic Diocese of Nairobi who presided over the Mass.
The bishop reminded the faithful that they had gathered not only to pray to God but also to ask for the intercession of St. Mother Teresa and asked that she also intercedes for those who are taking part in finishing her mission.
He thanked God that St. Mother Teresa was canonized in his time considering the canonization process takes many years and that he was greatly privileged to have met her when she was still alive.
“It is a great privilege for a person you have seen, touched, greeted to be canonized while you are still alive. To me is a great privilege because I met mother Teresa back in 1985 when she was here in Kenya for Eucharistic congress.”
Bishop Kamau further noted that Mother Teresa and Servant of God Maurice Otunga were very close and even collaborated in several works of mercy. Speaking on behalf of the Missionaries of Charity, Fr Vittorio Filletti senior priest at Mlango Kubwa in Pangani, Nairobi said Mother Teresa was a very strong woman blessed with a heart of a child. “She was a woman of small stature… a little child of God, but she revealed to many the hidden wisdom of the gospel, and showed the way to live the simplest part of Godliness by doing small things which play part in particular to the lost, and the poorest of the poor,” he said.
