KAMPALA, JULY 5, 2019 (CISA)-The Uganda Episcopal Conference has invited the public to join the Symposium of the Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) Golden Jubilee celebrations scheduled for July 19 to 29.
“This jubilee celebration is an opportunity for the Church in Africa to thank and give glory to God for the gift of faith, to reflect on its achievements for the last 50 years, and to renew its commitment to proclaim the Gospel in word and deed,” reads a statement signed by Bishop Joseph Zziwa, Chairman of the Uganda Episcopal Conference.
President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda will officially open the ceremony on July 21 in Munyonyo.
The celebrations guided by the theme “Church- Family of God in Africa, Celebrate your Jubilee! Proclaim Jesus Christ your Saviour” will be part of SECAM 18th Plenary Assembly.
SECAM is a continental structure that brings together the Catholic Bishops of Africa and Madagascar with the aim of uniting the Catholic Church in Africa as a family of God for effective ministry through collaboration, consultation and joint pastoral action.
It was inaugurated on July 29, 1969 at Lubaga Cathedral in Kampala during the first Plenary Assembly of the African Bishops.
