ADABRAKA, AUGUST 9, 2019 (CISA)-Archbishop Philip Naameh, the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) has expressed concern over affiliation of media houses to political parties, which affects how they report on news that concern the parties they are affiliated to.
“We are concerned about this… Media houses and journalists should be neutral in terms of informing the people of the things that happen but journalists or media houses understand themselves to belong to a certain political party, when that party is in government, the tendency is for them to keep quiet though they know the social evils they are supposed to report,” he said.
Speaking at the sidelines of the memorial Mass of former Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Archbishop Léon Kalenga Badikebele at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, Adabraka on August 5, Archbishop Naameh called on journalists and media houses not to wait on institutions and organizations to speak out concerning issues that are affecting the society, but be in the frontline to objectively inform the masses.
“You people more than us are the ones to be talking against these things,” he said.
The memorial Mass was attended by Ghana’s ambassador to the Vatican H.E Joseph Kojo Akudibilah, former Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Mr. Sylvester Jude Kpakpo Parker-Allotey, tens of men and women religious and lay faithful.
