NAKURU, OCTOBER 4, 2019 (CISA)-Thousands of Catholic faithful will tomorrow, October 5, converge at the Village of Mary National Shrine in Subukia to mark the annual national prayer day.
This year’s celebrations will be guided by the theme Baptised and Sent; Proclaim and Witness in context of calls by Pope Francis.
“He has urged the entire Catholic Church to reflect on the meaning of Baptism and its consequences on the meaning of our commitment as Christians and their consequences with the theme baptized and sent,” said Archbishop Anthony Muheria of Nyeri.
“Within this context the Catholic bishops have decided to take this challenge specifically in this moment where we focus on the awaking of the baptismal calling and awakening of the baptismal consequences of being a Christian that have to fight evil and stand for what is right,” he added.
Mombasa Ecclesiastical Province will animate this year’s celebrations.
“Every year we Catholics in Kenya have developed a culture to gather for a public prayer at the Subukia National Shrine. The celebration is usually led by a bishop within a metropolitan,” said Archbishop Martin Kivuva of the catholic archdiocese of Mombasa.
Mombasa Metropolitan comprises the Catholic Dioceses of Malindi, Garisa and the archdiocese of Mombasa.
