NAIROBI, OCTOBER 29, 2019 (CISA)-Rt. Rev. Charles Kasonde, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Solwezi, Zambia, and Chancellor of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), has called on graduands to use the values acquired at the university, and emulate the traits of Jesus to become innovators and leaders in their various professions.
“Jesus Christ was a great innovator of his time. Jesus was passionate about what he came to accomplish on earth…he was visionary…he thought differently and most of all Jesus was a great story teller… You too can use these traits together with the core values of CUEA; witness of life, prayer, truthfulness, honesty, excellence, commitment and competence to become great innovators and leaders in Africa within your professions,” he said.
The Bishop, who is also chairman of Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA), was speaking October 25, during the 38th graduation ceremony held in Nairobi under the theme: “Research & Innovation for Quality Higher Education: Building the Africa we want.”
He encouraged the over 2000 graduands in different fields to, “Think outside the box,” and put God first so as to succeed and stand out in their professions.
“The world out there is waiting for you. Think outside the box. Think like a researcher with the purpose of innovation, and as long as you put God first, you will succeed in your professional and personal lives,” he said.
“…today, Africa is full of promises and she is yearning for innovation and renaissance. Renaissance in technology, business, science and health; but above all she needs a cultural reawakening inspired by a moral leadership. This is the environment that awaits you so that you can utilize the skills you have acquired here in the last two, three and four years of study,” Rt. Rev. Maurice Muhatia, bishop of the Catholic diocese of Nakuru and chairman of the university council said in his address.
