KISUMU, SEPTEMBER 22, 2020 (CISA)-Archbishop Zacchaeus Okoth, emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kisumu has eulogized the late Bishop Linus Okok, emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Homabay as, “My beloved son with whom I am well pleased.”
“The bishop was always sober… He had a clear mind always and a great sense of duty… as a priest of Kisumu archdiocese he was a determined and committed servant of the Catholic Church who ensured the liturgy was right and people are doing the right thing,” Archbishop Okoth said during a requiem Mass held September 21 at Uzima University College grounds.
Archbishop Okoth was the main celebrant of the requiem Mass held Archbishop Philip Anyolo of Kisumu, Bishop Philip Sulumeti emeritus of Kakamega diocese and Bishop Maurice Anthony Crowley of Kitale diocese concelebrated the Mass.
“We have been reminded of very good things bishop did in our lives, things that elevate the humanity and the dignity of human person, and joy of being together as Christians. It is our time as we are being told to build a strong memory in our lives in memory of him so that in future, so that wherever he will be laid to rest, we can make that place like a sanctuary to strengthen his prayers because he will be closer and nearer to God than ourselves,” Archbishop Anyolo said.
“Our prayer is that Almighty God, who gave him the talent and in his strong character to evangelize his people may also take him in peace to join him in heaven,” Bishop Sulumeti, emeritus of Kakamega said noting that he had journeyed with the late bishop as a seminarian, a priest, and later a bishop.
According to the revised funeral program, the body of the late bishop Okok will arrive in Homa Bay on September 29 for vigil mass at 5pm ahead of his burial on September 30. Funeral Mass will begin at 10am at Homa Bay High School grounds.
