NAIROBI, OCTOBER 9, 2020 (CISA)-Kenyans have today commenced National Prayer weekend as announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“His Excellency the President has dedicated the forthcoming weekend, Friday 9th to Sunday 11th October 2020, a national weekend of prayer during which Kenyans are encouraged to pray for the country in their usual places of worship in compliance with Covid-19 containment protocols,” reads a statement released by Kanze Dena, State House Spokesperson and Head of the President’s Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU).
During the prayer period, President Kenyatta will convene an inter-faith national prayer service at State House, Nairobi on Saturday, October 10 to coincide with Huduma Day, a public holiday scheduled to be observed through national prayers that will highlight service and volunteerism to the community.
“The inter-faith prayer service will be broadcast live to the entire country on all leading television, radio and digital media platforms,” reads the statement from the State House.
According to a statement released today, October 9 by the Inter-Religious council the interfaith prayers will cut across the different faith denominations in the country.
“The prayers will be offered on Friday, Saturday and Sunday according to the day of worship of each faith,” reads the statement signed by Most Rev. Anthony Muheria Chairman of the Interfaith Council, Rev. Can. Chris Kinyanjui the Co-Chair of the Dialogue reference group (DRG), and Rev. Fr Joseph Mutie the Chairman of the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya.
Religious leaders have urged Kenyans to join and commit in praying for the Nation wherever they are in compliance with the Covid-19 protocols.
“Let us come together to give thanks, repent, seek forgiveness, pray for national healing, restoration and to present our aspirations to God. Let us remember to pray for our leaders in the different fields in our country and our families,” they said.
President Kenyatta agreed with religious leaders to host national prayers at a September 25 meeting at State house, Nairobi to, among other national issues, pray for the country’s battle with Covid-19.
