YAOUNDE, APRIL 20, 2021 (CISA)-Following the demise of Christian Cardinal Tumi, member bishops of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon converged in Yaounde for ordinary assembly to honor the late Archbishop Emeritus of Douala.
“This 46th Plenary Assembly, was literally inhabited by the death of His Eminence, we saw how important it was to us. Above all, we have experienced solidarity, the attachment we have for one another,” Bishop Abraham Kome, President of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon told the press.
The plenary was held from April 11 to April 17 at the headquarters of the National Episcopal Conference in Yaounde. Bishop Kome while expressing grief of the Church in Cameroon invited Bishops and all Christians to join in solidarity in prayer for the late Cardinal Tumi.
“In his opening speech, His Excellency Mgr Abraham Kome, Bishop of Bafang and President of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon, expressed the grief of the whole Church of Cameroon, following the return to the House of the Heavenly Father of His Eminence Cardinal Christian Tumi. He invited the Bishops and all Christians to continue praying to the Risen Lord so that he opens the doors of the Kingdom to this devoted pastor,” reads a statement released by the conference.
Cardinal Tumi’s death was announced during Saturday morning Prayers by the Archbishop of Douala, Samuel Kleda. The prelate died on the night of Friday April 2 in Douala after a short illness.
Bishop Louis Portella Mbuyu Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Kinkala, South Region of Congo, Bishop Yves Marie Monot of Ouesso, Congo and Archbishop Anatole Milandou of Brazzaville are among the African prelates who joined thee Church in Cameroon for the burial of Cardinal Tumi held today, April 20 at the Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral.
