NYERI, APRIL 22, 2022 (CISA)-The first indigenous congregation of religious men in Kenya, Brothers of St Joseph of Nyeri are set to mark 75 years since inception.
While confirming and announcing the preparations for the Diamond Jubilee celebration, the Superior General of the congregation, Br Titus Walela, said “a jubilee is a landmark that we need to celebrate the goodness of God since our foundation.”
“We are celebrating the vocation to brotherhood and the gift of one another as a congregation where all members are being celebrated. We are celebrating the goodness of the church and so many things that God has done for us which we need to say thank you,” Br Walela told CISA.
To mark the celebration on April 30 at their motherhouse in Mweiga, Nyeri, the congregation embarked on a campaign to promote vocations to brotherhood, documenting the congregation’s history and also updating their constitution.
“We also intend to create a nature park, so that people can come and rest, pray and do the seminars in this place,” he added on the plans of marking the jubilee calling on for support to achieve the dream.
“The day is just to say that you to God for his Goodness, for calling us to this vocation because many have been called and they did not respond, some responded but they found life very difficult. For us, he has given us the grace to continue persevering up to now. We want to say thank you God for allowing us to see what we have seen in the church,” Br Walela explained.
The celebration will be marked by Holy Mass starting at 9:30 AM to be presided over by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan, His Excellency Archbishop Hubertus Maria van Megen and concelebrated by Archbishop Anthony Muheria of Nyeri among other bishops.
