NIGERIA: Bishop Condemns Attack on Catholic Priests

AWKA OCTOBER 7, 2016(CISA)-Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor of the Catholic Diocese of Awka has condemned attack on three Catholic priests allegedly by herdsmen in Enugu.

Three Catholic priests were on September 26, attacked by Fulani herdsmen in Akachine, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State on their way from a condolence visit, Nigeria’s Daily Trust Newspaper reported.

The attack left Fr Jude Chetanna Chukwuneke (who was driving) with bullet wounds in the head; and another, Fr Jude Ezeokana, with injuries sustained after their car fell into a bush.

Fr Emmanuel Dim, who was initially kidnapped, was however, released two days later.

Bishop Ezeokafor told journalists in Awka October 4 that the attack to the priests was strongly condemnable by all.

He called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, to urgently look into the security situation in the areas with the immediacy it deserves since it was endangering the lives of the locals and the clergy.
