MALAWI: Time has Come to Own the Church, Archbishop Msusa Tells Christians

LIMBE MARCH 28, 2017 (CISA) – Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa of the Catholic Archdiocese of Blantyre has called upon faithful to develop a spirit of self reliance in running Church institutions.

“Time has come for the Christians to develop a spirit of ownership and be able to run the church especially the seminaries. Many think that for the seminaries to run the bishops must get funding from the Pope but this is not the case,” said Archbishop Msusa.

Speaking during Pius XII seminary alumni meeting in Limbe, March 27, he called on Christians to help build and maintain seminaries among other church institutions ‘since they require a lot of money to run,’ reported Malawi’s Nyasa Times Newspaper.

The prelate further commended Pius XII seminary alumni for their support to the seminary adding that “the former students had done a tremendous job to the institution.

Speaking during the same event Fr Dennis Kabvina, Rector of the seminary said that they had set up various measures to overcome financial problems facing the seminary over the years but their efforts was still not enough.

“Apart from having a maize field that will produce over 400 bags of maize this year and a maize mill, we have also introduced double streams that will enable us collect more school fees which is the life blood of the seminary,” said Fr Kabvina.

Pius XII seminary is the only minor seminary in the Archdiocese of Blantyre where young boys aspiring to become priests acquire secondary education.

Currently, the school has 184 students with a capacity of about 300 students.
