KENYA: Anthony Woods, Long Serving Chancellor of Lodwar Diocese Dies

LODWAR, MAY 26, 2023 (CISA)-Mr Anthony Woods, an Irish Lay Missionary and Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar has died.

In a statement released by Rt. Rev John Mbinda CSSp on May 25, the bishop of Lodwar eulogized the missionary as committed, humble and with a drive to achieve goals.

“I received with great sadness the news of the passing on of our Chancellor Anthony Woods in Eldoret Hospital today early in the morning. Anthony Woods has served the diocese of Lodwar as the Chancellor for a long time,” the May 25 statement read in part.

“I welcome all the stakeholders of the Diocese of Lodwar to pray for the repose of the soul of Anthony Woods. My condolence to the family of Anthony Woods in Ireland, members of the Clergy, religious, lay faithful, the past students of St. Charles Lwanga and those of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui where Anthony spend most of his early years,” stated Bishop Mbinda.

Mr Woods arrived in Kitui in 1968 aged 24. He founded St. Charles Lwanga High School in Kitui as a boys’ boarding secondary school. It is one of the best-performing high schools in Kitui County.

“He devoted his entire life to not only instructing but also shaping generations of learners, some of whom went on to become well-known figures in politics, the armed forces, the judiciary, the private sector, and the diaspora,” read a message of condolence by the Catholic Diocese of Kitui.
