KENYA: Go out and Transform the World, Cardinal Barhanayesus tells CUEA Graduands

NAIROBI MAY 26 2017 (CISA) – Cardinal Berhaneyesus Souraphiel, the Chancellor of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) has called on graduands to transform the world positively with new ideas.

“You have been transformed to be the professionals you are today. I ask you to step into the world and transform each and every society you step into positively by showcasing what CUEA identity is,” he said.

In a statement read by Bishop Maurice Muhatia, Chairman of the University council during the 35th graduation ceremony at CUEA today, Cardinal Berhaneyesus urged the graduands to shun corruption and practices that can lead them away from God.

“As you go forth into the world, avoid worldly temptations such as corruption corporate crime, immorality or any other activity that will lead you away from God…,” he said.

Cardinal Berhaneyesus, President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Ethiopia (CBCE) and Chairman of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) further noted that AMECEA was praying for peaceful August 8 General Elections in Kenya.

On his part, Bishop Maurice Muhatia, thanked the guardians of over 653 students who graduated during the event and hoped they go on to become “big people” in the society who inspire change.

“We thank you for choosing to work with us in education and formation of all graduates you have sponsored in the last few years. Many of those who graduated from CUEA have gone on to become church leaders and society change champions. I wish you well in your future carriers and lives ahead,” he concluded.
