NAIROBI, JANUARY 9, 2024 (CISA)-Representatives of faith-based organizations, civil societies, corporate bodies, government agencies and institutions of learning involved in environmental conservation and management under the umbrella of Mother Earth Network will meet in Nairobi to discuss areas of solidarity around environmental conservation.

The January 20 conference to be held at the Franciscan Centre Portiuncula, Karen-Nairobi, on the theme “Responding to Mother Earth’s Cry and Advancing Concerns Post COP28” will comprise round table discussions, presentations and address by a delegate at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

“Already the world is preparing for COP29 and so we are on the move to deepen our awareness and responsibility to recreate Mother Earth. The Mother Earth is crying. COP28 is digging in and giving us a hand and broadening on lots of areas of solidarity. We are happy that the whole world with representatives from all countries came together and came up with adaptable resolutions for the next generation,” Fr Hermann Borg OFM, Director of Mother Earth Network told CISA.

Through the conference, the network aims to motivate young people in villages and schools and seek ways to partner with other organizations to promote its activities at the grassroots.

“We used to have those conferences before and this marks the resumption of the conferences. We are inviting as many stakeholders as possible. We would like to have an open discussion on how to better the earth and how we can make the lives of our people better,” Washington Ndirangu, a coordinator at Mother Earth Network said.

At the end of the COP28 on December 13, 2023, the 198 parties to the UN climate talks in Dubai decided to transition the world away from fossil fuels, launched the Loss and Damage Fund, adopted the Global Stock take and established a framework for the Global Goal on Adaptation.
