KENYA: Ngong Diocese Holds Requiem Mass for Bishop Colin Davies

NGONG JANUARY 20, 2017 (CISA)- The Catholic Diocese of Ngong, held a requiem Mass for the late Bishop Colin Davies at St Joseph the Worker Cathedral on January 20.

Bishop Colin Davies, Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Ngong died January 8 in Freshfield, England aged 92.

The Mass was presided over by John Cardinal Njue of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi con-celebrated by Archbishop Charles Balvo — the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South  Sudan, Bishop John Oballa  Owaa of Ngong, Bishop Maurice Crowley of Kitale, Bishop Emmanuel Okombo of Kericho and Bishop Salesius Mugambi of Meru.

In the homily, Archbishop Balvo recalled that he met the late bishop once in April 2013 and admired his zeal for missionary work.

“I went to visit him at Mill Hill Africa house along Ngong road. We had a nice conversation and he explained to me so much on his missionary life,” said Archbishop Balvo.

“I urge you to remain committed in prayer for the family during this difficult time. He was here for many years and offered his life for the sake of this diocese and the Church in Kenya,” said Cardinal Njue.

Bishop Oballa  praised the late Bishop Davies for his outstanding legacy in the diocese especially in handling the poor and noted that the witness of the late Bishop will remain a constant memory in the diocese.

“I had a wonderful one year staying with him. This diocese of Ngong was his. He spent 45 years of active ministry in this diocese. The witness of his life will remain in memory,” said the prelate.

“Bishop Davies was committed to ensuring that his legacy remained and continued serving and responding to the poor and those in urgent need,” said Bishop Oballa..

The late Bishop Davies was buried today at the Mill Hill Missionaries House at Freshfield, England.
