NIGERIA: Kidnapped Catholic Priests Freed

DELTA, MAY 5, 2023 (CISA) – Fr Chochos Kunav, a member of the Secular Institute of the Schoenstatt Fathers- Nigeria region, and Fr Raphael Ogigba, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Warri have been released.

In a statement dated May 5, Fr Okereke Kingsely Kizito, the Delegate Superior of the Schoenstatt Fathers said the two priests were released on the night of May 4, 2023, unharmed and unbroken.

According to reports by local media, the Delta State Police Command also confirmed the release of two priests who were kidnapped on April 29 at Agbarha-Otor in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

However, both institutions did not disclose if a ransom fee was paid to the kidnappers before they were released.

Fr Kunav, who lives and works in Ibadan and his friend Fr Raphael were abducted while returning to his parish, St. Francis Agbara Otor, Ughelli North, Delta State. They were returning from visiting a nearby parish when the unknown kidnappers intercepted their vehicle and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
