RWANDA: Prime Minister Calls for Churches Unity to Speed up Development

KIGALI, OCTOBER 16 2015(CISA) – Rwanda Prime Minister Anastase Murekezi has urged churches to join hands with the government to ensure involvement of citizens in activities to promote development.

The Premier made the remarks October 10, while addressing Catholic Church clerics and believers gathered in Musanze District, Northern Province to celebrate the 50th anniversary (golden jubilee) of the Catholic Diocese of Ruhengeri.

He further said that churches need to ensure nationwide campaigns to keep mobilising the faithful, and encouraged them to be part of the country’s transformation journey.

“ For our country to realize growth, citizens have to understand that programmes like – modern farming, investing in businesses, saving, promoting education, paying community health, promoting hygiene and family planning are meant to boost their livelihoods and improve their wellbeing,” Rwanda Government Press quoted the PM as saying.

“Christian sects countrywide must ensure that the Christian values they preach match our national values, policies. This will speed up development. We urge churches to keep preaching love, development and ownership of government programmes meant to transform lives,” he concluded.
