UGANDA: Catholic Choir wins Top Music Awards in Germany

KAMPALA JUNE 9, 2017(CISA) – The Franciscan Choir of Christ the King Church in the Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala has won three awards at the Harmonie Music Festival held in Limburg, Germany.

The Franciscan choristers, who were the sole participants from Africa, were declared by the judges as the best in singing, dancing and playing instruments (Most Specialized Category).

They took third position in folklore with three instruments. They were also third in singing folklore pieces without any accompaniment. Further to the awards, the choir was also given three meritorious certificates, reported Uganda’s New Vision Newspaper June 7.

Ronald Kasozi, chairman of the Franciscan choristers, said that the award was a morale booster and it was their first time to win such awards.

“Harmonie Music festival takes place every five years. Although we have participated in the festival previously, this is our first time to win many accolades.

He said that the festival was intended to promote human unity, solidarity and friendship among countries of the world.

The festival, which took place on May 25-28, attracted 250 choirs from 39 countries of the world.

The Franciscan choristers declared their awards during the 11:15am mass at Christ the King Church, Kampala, on Sunday June 4.
