MACHAKOS, FEBRUARY 10, 2015(CISA) – Archbishop-elect Martin Kivuva of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa has urged faithful to work towards promoting peace, harmony and transformation to create unity.
“As Christians we are challenged to take up our place in the society mainly to be agents of peace, harmony and positive transformation knowing that we are not alone in this journey,” the outgoing bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Machakos said.
He said that the faithful, “Need to remind themselves that God created everybody irrespective of his tribe race or affiliation” adding that “we need to share the space and the freedom.”
Speaking during the annual diocesan pilgrimage at Our Lady of Komarock Shrine, 50 kilometres east of Nairobi on February 7 when he bid farewell to the diocese, the prelate lauded the priests and all the religious leaders in Machakos for their hard work in developing the diocese.
“We have worked together my dear priests for the last 11 years; we may have done a lot in terms of doing but one thing remains in my heart you are a great team keep it up, from the deans to the parish priests, to the religious men and women to the Lay council amongst others,” the Archbishop-elect noted.
“Any success that has been mentioned is not my success it is our success. I cannot claim to be perfect or a saint, I ask for your forgiveness if for any reason I may have offended you while executing my duties. Please forgive me for my witness and pray for me as I discharge my mandate in the next place that the Holy Father has sent me,” he added.
The Archdiocese of Mombasa became vacant following the resignation of the late Archbishop bishop Emeritus Boniface Lele in November 2013. Bishop Emmanuel Barbara of the Catholic Diocese of Malindi has been serving as the apostolic administrator since November 2013.
The Archbishop–elect will be installed on February 21 at Tononoka grounds in Mombasa
