KENYA: Family Life Office holds Anti-abortion Walk, Urges Parents to mentor Youth

NAIROBI MARCH 22, 2016(CISA) – The Family Life National Office of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) on Saturday March 19 held a walk in Nairobi to campaign against Abortion.

The walk that was done in collaboration with the Kenya Christian Professional Forum (KCPF) was officially flagged off by Bishop Salesius Mugambi, Chairman, Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) – Family Life National Office at the Holy Family Minor Basilica in Nairobi.

Speaking during the occasion Bishop Mugambi called on the society to respect life since it is “God given to humanity and the society has the mandate to protect it as commanded by God.”

“The Catholic Church has been on the fore front in ensuring that we formidably accept and protect this gift. It is very surprising that Humanity is giving in to negative social pressure of the society as the recent trends portray people as not mindful of this divine call to protect life,” he said.

Bishop Mugambi of the Catholic Diocese of Meru further called on the parents to take up their role seriously to mentor the youth by instilling the right values and morals to them. “Parents need to stand up and support the young generation to grow up as responsible citizens and help the Church in advocating for a responsible citizenry,” he said.

KCPF vice chairman Mr Charles Kanjama said that the procession was meant to encourage people not to engage in abortion and instead save life. “The walk was about the sanctity of life.We want Kenyans to be sensitized, to realize the life of the unborn is also precious,” Daily Nation quoted Kanjama as saying.

“The number suggested is that over 100,000…but to us, even one death is too many because even the constitution recognizes life begins at conception. What we are experiencing is almost genocide of the unborn,” he added. During the prayer walk through the streets of Nairobi city, participants condemned abortion, drug abuse by the youth, corruption perpetuated by the leaders and euthanasia.

The protesters carried placards with the writings operation save life, say No to Abortion, I stand For Life, Promote a Life Culture, I Am A miracle, Human Rights To Life, Protect Life among others.
