MAMPONTENG,MAY 17, 2016 (CISA)-Bishop Joseph Osei- Bonsu, Chairman of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, has bemoaned increased rate of bribery and corruption in Ghana.
The bishop called on the youth to “shy away from the endemic canker which has hit the rooftop in this country.” “It is unfortunate that people are still stealing monies and paying bribes to have their way in this country. This must stop,” Ghana’s the Chronicle Newspaper quoted Bishop Osei- Bonsu as saying.
The latest Afro Barometer Report has revealed that 82 percent of Ghanaians believe that the country is heading in the wrong direction, whereas 58 percent think the country is already in a very bad state. Speaking during the graduation ceremony at Our Lady of Grace (OLAG) at Mamponteng in the Kwabre West district of the Ashanti Region under the theme: ‘Celebrating the goodness of the Lord’, the prelate called on the 129 graduands to desist from bribery and corruption, stressing that it can mar their future and land them in trouble. Bishop Osei-Bonsu of the Catholic Diocese Konongo-Mampong urged the outgoing and continuing students to lead exemplary life, devoid of bribery and corruption. “Your service must be paramount,” the Bishop advised.
While congratulating the students, the Bishop charged the graduands to upgrade themselves by climbing high the academic ladder and achieving their academic goals. He urged parents and guardians not to toy with the education of their wards, but give it the needed attention. 129 students including 61 males and 68 females graduated.
