TANZANIA: Archbishop Calls for Use of Technology to Enhance Pastoral Work

MWANZA MAY 30, 2017(CISA)-Archbishop Jude Thaddeus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mwanza has called on churches to embrace technology in pastoral work.

“Technology is moving very fast and we have to brace ourselves to move with it. Those who fail to embrace the technology, risk being left behind and consequently risk missing out the opportunities and benefits that come with the new technology,” the Archbishop said May 26.

According to AMECEA News, the Archbishop was speaking at his residence in Mwanza the Archdiocese of Mwanza which he says has made great efforts in embracing the use of modern technology.

“In the Archdiocese of Mwanza, we are trying to see to it that we use effectively all opportunities which are at our disposal to make sure that all pastoral agents liaise with the modern technology,” he said.

He applauded Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) for its initiative to promote Information Communication Technology (ICT) at diocesan level that has seen nine Tanzania Archdioceses and Dioceses benefit from the trainings.

According to Fr Chrisantus Ndaga, the Coordinator of AMECEA Social Communications,  the ICT Workshop on Website Creation and Administration training whose first phase began May 22-May 25 2017 as part of the three-year ICT program of AMECEA.

“Tanzania becomes the first beneficiary of the program and will be followed by Malawi and Zambia in the near future. We have established that a number of dioceses are spending heavily on running and hosting their websites which are not user friendly, and this has discouraged other dioceses from establishing websites,” he said.

The Archdioceses and dioceses that benefited include Archdioceses of Dar-es-Salaam, Mwanza, Arusha , and Tabora and Dioceses of Tanga, Musoma, Njombe, Geita and Shinyanga.
