JOS, SEPTEMBER 27, 2019 (CISA)-The Episcopal Chairman of Communication, Bishop Denis Isizoh, has appealed to catholic journalists ensure what they post and share on social media promotes peace and unity in the country.
In his opening address to National Convention of Catholic Media Practitioners Association (CAMP) in Nigeria taking place in Jos, he urged them to use the social media to enhance their work, taking into account their Catholic faith.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Fr Christian Anyanwu, the bishop said that evangelization must directly be connected to Jesus, adding that it is the responsibility of members of CAMP in making the voices of the church to be heard.
Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama of Jos also present during the meeting called on Catholic journalists in Nigeria to use the media to propagate peace, avoiding stories that can threaten peace in the country.
The archbishop, who officially opened the three-day meeting on September 25, stressed on the journalists to sustain the tempo noting that peace has returned to plateau State. He also assured the CAMP members of their safety throughout the program.
Earlier in his welcome address, the president of CAMP , Mr Patrick Osu, expressed gratitude to Bishops for their support towards realization of the programme.
Mr Osu said the aim of the convention is to give opportunity to media practitioners to re-evaluate and create ways of improving their performance.
He urged all members of CAMP to show sincerity, discipline of purpose, hard work and promote peace unity among people, and called on the Church to work together with media in propagating the gospel.
He appealed to Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria to consider posting priests that have passion for communications to head department at the diocesan level.
The meeting under the theme “New Media and Evangelization” will end on September 28.
