YENDI, JUNE 7, 2022 (CISA)- Pope Francis has appointed Rev Fr Matthew Yitiereh as the new bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Yendi, Ghana, in an announcement made by the Holy See Press office on June 3.
Monsignor Yitiereh, until his appointment is the vicar general of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Tamale. He was born on January 1, 1961, in the Upper West Region, in the Catholic Diocese of Wa. He studied at St Francis Xavier Minor Seminary in Wa, St Hubert Seminary Senior High in Kumasi and St Victor’s Major Seminary in Tamale.
Msgr Yitiereh was ordained a priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Tamale on July 22, 1995.
“After ordination, he first held the roles of the parish priest of Holy Spirit in Chamba (1995-1997) and Saints Peter and Paul (1998-2003), and director of diocesan youth ministry (1998-2003). He studied for a Master of Theology degree with a specialization in the pastoral liturgy in Ireland from 2002 to 2004. He went on to serve as master of diocesan celebrations and chairman of the administration board of the Tamale Institute of Cross-Cultural Studies (2004); administrator of the Cathedral of the Annunciation in Tamale (2004-2015); since 2015, president of the Tamale Archdiocese Priests’ Association and from 2016 to date, vicar general of the metropolitan archdiocese of Tamale and parish priest of the Blessed Sacrament Church,” read part of the announcement.
His appointment comes after the Holy Father accepted the resignation of Rt Rev Vincent Sowah Boi-Nai, S.V.D., who has served the diocese for 23 years since 1999.
