VATICAN CITY, JULY 5, 2025 (CISA) – Pope Leo has appointed Rt. Rev. Simon Peter Kamomoe, currently serving as auxiliary bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Nairobi, as auxiliary bishop of the newly erected Catholic Diocese of Wote in Kenya.

The appointment was announced by the Holy See Press Office on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

Born on November 26, 1962, in Gatundu, Kiambu County, Bishop Kamomoe was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Nairobi on June 18, 1994. His priestly formation took place at Saint Mary’s Major Seminary in Molo, followed by philosophical and theological studies at Saint Augustine’s Senior Seminary in Mabanga and Saint Matthias Mulumba Senior Seminary in Tindinyo, respectively.

Throughout his ministry, Bishop Kamomoe has served in various pastoral roles. He began as assistant at Queen of Apostles Junior Seminary (1994–1995), and then served in several parishes including Thigio, Mang’u, Ndundu, and Saint Matia Mulumba in Thika between 1995 and 1998. He later served as parish priest of Our Lady of Fatima in Kiriko (1998–1999) and Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Parish in Kiambu (1999–2008). He also held the positions of vicar forane and member of the College of Consultors during this period.

Since 2008, he has served as the administrator of the Holy Family Minor Basilica in Nairobi and chaplain of the diocesan Family Pastoral Office.

On February 13, 2024, Bishop Kamomoe was appointed titular bishop of Thubunae in Numidia and auxiliary bishop of Nairobi. He was consecrated on April 6, 2024.

His transfer to the Diocese of Wote marks a significant step in the pastoral development of the diocese, which was established by Pope Francis in July 22, 2023 to better cater to the spiritual needs of the faithful in Makueni County and its surroundings.
