HO JANUARY 19, 2016(CISA) – Msgr. Anthony Kornu, Vicar General of the Catholic diocese of Ho on Sunday January 17 called on Ghanaians to “recreate their minds” to embrace refugees and migrants. “Investment in migrants is most lucrative because it could be your turn tomorrow,” Ghana Web Newspaper quoted Msgr Kornu as saying.
He noted that it was wrong to see refugees and migrants as “nuisance” because everybody is a migrant at a time adding that “the country’s attitude should be to receive them and show them love and respect.”
Msgr Kornu further urged refugees and migrants in the country to “respect the rules and laws of the country and do things that could help lighten the burden of the country.”
He was speaking at a forum to mark World Day of Migrants and Refugees in Ho.
The celebration was under the auspices of the Ho Diocese of the Catholic Church with support from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
Speaking during the same forum, Mr Emmanuel Danku, Head of Togolese Refugees in Volta Region, expressed gratitude to the Government of Ghana, UNHCR and the Catholic Church for supporting them since 1993. “We came to Ghana with nothing in 1993 but by the grace of God, we have life and more,” he stated.
