NAIROBI, JULY 12, 2019 (CISA) – The Consolata Shrine has commissioned the Blessed Allamano ultra-modern office block.
While officially opening the building on Sunday July 7, John Cardinal Njue, Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi congratulated the parishioners for the good work saying they had truly shown that the church in Africa had become independent.
“I tell you to please don’t think that you have arrived because that is a step in a long journey that is there. Let this become to us the manifestation that when we are working together and doing things together then we can go miles and leave a meaningful heritage to those who are there,” he said.
Fr Joseph Waithaka, the Regional Superior of Consolata Missionaries in Kenya and Uganda, urged the Church in Kenya to take up the responsibilities that come with having their own facilities and that it is time to change the mind setup of being spoon fed by missionaries.
“Owning the Church makes a lot of difference…it is up to us now to take charge of the responsibilities we have in these activities because the Church in Kenya is becoming a mature church,” said Fr Joseph.
Fr James Lengarin, Vice General Superior of the Consolata Missionaries, who was present during the event congratulated the Church for their unwavering support and recognition of the work the Church is undertaking.
“The Church has matured and we mature because our people have understood why we are in this Catholic Apostolic Church,” said Fr Lengarin.
“This building will address the perennial shortage of parking space, meeting rooms, and parish office facilities among other needs,” said Mr James Wanguyi, the Chairman of the Allamano Strategic and Steering Committee.
The ground breaking ceremony for the Allamano Center was presided over by Bishop Virgilio Pante of the Catholic Diocese of Maralal on March 18, 2017.
