MACHAKOS FEBRUARY 3, 2015(CISA) – Archbishop-elect of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa, Martin Kivuva Musonde, on January 29 bid farewell to religious and clergy of Daystar University.
While addressing the group of nine religious and seven clergy from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Vietnam, Nigeria and India, the Archbishop-Elect encouraged them to be focused on what brought them to Daystar and urged them to make God happy and their respective superiors and bishops proud by excelling in studies and being witnesses of Christ and the Church by their way of life.
“Be an example that can be looked upon and emulated by the Catholic laity as well as the larger Daystar community as a whole. Remember, you are the voice and face of the church at Daystar University,” he added.
The prelate further encouraged the religious and clergy in Daystar University to be part and parcel of the Church activities in both the Catholic diocese of Machakos (Daystar’s main campus) and the Archdiocese of Nairobi (where Daystar runs a Nairobi campus) and determine where and how they can begin to put their knowledge into practice and not wait till after their graduation.
Each year, on the feast of Christ the King, the team, led by Sr Dr Agnes Lucy Lando, senior faculty at Daystar University, holds annual consultative meeting with the bishop at his Machakos residence.
“Every year on the feast of Christ the King, we religious and clergy of Daystar University meet and share with our shepherd and spiritual father the joys, sorrows, successes and challenges we encounter at the University,” stated Sr Lando.
The Archbishop-elect however explained this year’s event happened much earlier because on February 21 he shall be installed the Archbishop of Mombasa.
“I did not want to leave without holding our annual get-together and sharing,” he said.
Daystar University’s main campus, Athi River, falls in the ecclesiastical territory of the Catholic Diocese of Machakos.
