GHANA: Fr Edward Tengan Elected Diocesan Administrator of Wa Diocese

WA, DECEMBER 6, 2022 (CISA) – Following the death of His Eminence Richard Cardinal Baawobr, Fr Edward B. Tengan has been elected as the Diocesan Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Wa.

In a memo to all Parishes, Institutions, Religious Communities and Faithful, the diocese announced that on December 3, 2022, “ The College of Consultors was convoked for the purpose of electing a Diocesan administrator for the Diocese. The College of consultors with due respect for the laid norm and procedures elected Very Rev Fr Edward B. Tengan as the Diocesan Administrator of the Diocese of Wa.”

“With immediate effect, Very Rev Fr Edward B Tengan is the Diocesan Administrator until the Holy Father appoints a diocesan Bishop,” read part of the memo by Fr Benjamin Fiiriter, the Chancellor and Secretary of Curia.

According to the memo, “Upon due consultations, the Vatican directed the College of Consultors of the Diocese of Wa to Elect a Diocesan Administrator who shall govern the Diocese ad interim.”

“While congratulating Very Rev Fr Edward B. Tengan on his election as Diocesan Administrator, I wish to solicit your prayers and support for him so that his mission may be fruitful for God’s glory and the sanctification of God’s people,” said Fr Fiiriter.

The diocese of wa became vacant upon the death of Cardinal Baawobr on November 27.
