KENYA: AMECEA Executive Board Commits to Implementing Plenary Resolutions

NAIROBI, OCTOBER 16, 2018 (CISA)-Bishop Charles Kasonde, Chairman of Association of Member Episcopal Conference of Eastern Africa (AMECEA), has reassured the commitment of Executive Board Members towards implementation of the 19th Plenary Meeting Resolutions.

“What we have done is really to look at the resolutions that came out of the study sessions of the Plenary as well as the resolutions that came up during the business session which is also called the closed sessions for Bishops. So we have looked at the two sets of the resolutions. For implementation, these will guide us for the next four years,” he said.

Bishop Kasonde was speaking in Nairobi after AMECEA Executive Board Meeting held on October 11 and 12 during which responsibilities were given to appointees and those elected during the plenary in Ethiopia.

The Executive Board meeting also focused on ensuring the coordination of programs at AMECEA secretariat as well as management of its departments which will be under the leadership of bishops.

According to AMECEA online news, the board also confirmed the reappointment of Bishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba of Catholic Diocese of Nakuru as the Chairman of Council of Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).

Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa of the Archdiocese of Blantyre, Malawi was reappointed as the Vice Chairman of AMECEA.

Bishop Kasonde said that all the positions had been filled by AMECEA Executive Board based on the recommendations of the 19th AMECEA Plenary Assembly.

The 19th AMECEA plenary Assembly took place from July 13 to 23 comprising of the Episcopal Conferences of Eritrea, Ethiopia, Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan and South Sudan, Uganda, Zambia and the affiliate members of Djibouti and Somalia.
