NIGERIA: Church’s Position on Gay Marriage Unchangeable, Cardinal Says

ABUJA, JULY 28, 2015 (CISA) – Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, has affirmed the Church’s position on homosexuality and gay marriages saying that it remains unchangeable.

According to Nigeria’s PM News, the Cardinal reiterated this stance during a visit to the neighbouring Diocese of Makurdi on July 26.

“The Catholic Church considers itself as carrying the banner of the truth in the World that has allowed itself to be so badly deceived,” he said.

“Unfortunately, we are living in a world where these things have now become acceptable but for the fact that they are acceptable does not mean they are right,” he said.

Cardinal John stressed the Church’s teaching on marriage between a man and a woman, “even if people do not like us for it,” he added.

“There is no such thing as marriage between two men or marriage between two women, whatever they do among themselves should not be called marriage,” he concluded.
