NIGERIA: Kidnapped Catholic Priest from Enugu, Released After Three Days in Captivity

ENUGU, SEPTEMBER 22, 2023 (CISA) – Fr Marcellinus Obioma Okide, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu kidnapped on September 17 has been released.

Fr Okide who is serving at St. Mary Amofia-Agu Affa Parish, alongside six others were abducted by unknown gunmen along the Eke-Egede-Affa Road in the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State while en route to his parish.

In a statement issued by the Diocesan Chancellor and Secretary, Fr Wilfred Chidi Agubuchie, Fr Okide was released around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023.

Fr Agubuchie said the diocese extends her heartfelt appreciation to the faithful who offered prayers and dedicated masses for his safe return throughout this challenging period.

Meanwhile, no statement has been issued by the Enugu State Police Command concerning the situation of the other six people kidnapped alongside the priest.
