MALINDI, AUGUST 25, 2020 (CISA)-The Catholic Justice and Peace Commission (CJPC) in Mombasa Metropolitan donated 150 kilograms of assorted cereals to Pope Francis Rescue Home for child victims of sexual abuse and exploitation in marking 20th Anniversary of the death of Fr John Anthony Kaiser.
“This donation is the first in a series of charity efforts by the Mombasa Metropolitan CJPC family planned to take place throughout this week in marking the 20th Anniversary of the death of Rev. Fr John A. Kaiser,” Moses M. Mpuria Coordinator of CJPC Malindi and Secretary-of Mombasa Metropolitan CJPC said in an August 24 Facebook Post.
The donation made on August 24 coincided with a meeting of metropolitan CJPC coordinators who are developing Lenten campaign material for 2021. Present were Fr Nicholas Mutua for Garissa diocese, Lillian Japanni for Mombasa Archdiocese and Moses Mpuria for Malindi diocese.
The Catholic Church in Kenya marks an annual memorial for Fr John Anthony Kaiser who was on August 24, 2000 found dead at Morendat near Naivasha Town, along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway.
“The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) through the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission involves A/Dioceses and Parishes in marking Fr. Kaiser Memorial on the Sunday closest to August 24,” the post reads.
He is remembered for serving the poor, advocating for justice for the oppressed and respect for human rights while working for in the Catholic diocese of Kisii, Nakuru and Ngong.
According to findings after an inquest opened by the Government of Kenya at the request of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), Fr Kaiser was murdered and the fronted ‘suicide theory’ was based on a pre-conceived notion.
The then presiding Magistrate ruled on August 1, 2007 that the court could not, on the basis of evidence tabled in the inquest, point out with certainty who the priest’s killers were.
Fr John A. Kaiser was born in Perham, Minnesota in the United States of America on November 23, 1932. He was ordained in St. Louis for the Mill Hill Fathers in 1964, and was sent to their mission in Kenya the same year.
