TOMBURA-YAMBIO, AUGUST 7, 2020 (CISA) – Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala of the Catholic diocese of Tombura-Yambio has condemned the murder of three children in Rocky City Juba, August 1 calling for speedy investigation by law enforcers.
“What kind of monstrous cowards can sneak up on defenseless children and slaughter them in their home? I join the entire nation in condemning this inhuman behavior and call for a law and order crackdown. I call upon the law enforcement agents and those responsible for public safety to find such cowards and subject to the full weight of the law in justice!” he said in an August 2 statement.
As the bishop condoled with families of the three children identified as Lydia, Blessings and Nura he called for a more vocal condemnation of the tragedy.
“Despite there have being several condemnations of the killing of these children and above all by our national government and authorities, there is yet to be a consistent robust and fair implementation of these same sentiments more regionally and locally. It may likely sit back the old annoying phenomenon of “unknown gun man!” Please let this incident trigger consistent urgent alarm of vigilance by all of us to protect and cherish the lives of each and every one of us,” he said.
“A fundamental component of a person’s human dignity is the right to life and no one has right. We the peace-loving people of South Sudan must stand united in lifting up that right in the face of those who would use violence and intimidation to squash it,” he noted.
Local media reports that 19 suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of the three children.
