NAIROBI, OCTOBER 31, 2023 (CISA)- The African Synodality Initiative (ASI), a collaboration of the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM), the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa & Madagascar (SECAM) and the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) has organized a post-synodal Zoom webinar titled ‘Walking the Synodal Path: Reflections on the Synod on Synodality – Voices from Africa’.
The online meeting scheduled for November 15, 2023, will be headlined by Archbishop Andrew Nkea, the Archbishop of Bamenda, Cameroon, and president of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon (NECC).
The Synod delegate and also a member of the Ordinary Council of the Synod, appointed by Pope Francis will give the keynote address on the synod’s agenda and key discussions, and offer insights into the synod’s outcomes (synthesis report).
The panellists of the meeting, which aims to reflect on the experience, insights, and lessons from the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, include Fr Rafael Simbine, Secretary General of SECAM and an African delegate to the Synod who will offer the welcoming remarks, Fr Anthony Makunde, Secretary General of AMECEA and a Synod delegate, Synod delegate Sr Marie Solange Randrianirina FSP, the Regional Provincial of the Daughters ofSaint Paul in Madagascar and Ms Sheila Pires, the communications officer of the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC) and the Secretary of the Synod Information Commission.
The meeting will be moderated by Fr Andrew Kaufa, a consultor of the Dicastery for Communication at the Vatican and coordinator of the social communications department of AMECEA.
According to Ms Caroline Kavita, the Programme Coordinator of ASI, the post-synodal webinar “will be a crucial moment for debriefing and offering an African perspective on the synodal process.”
