NYERI, APRIL 17, 2020 (CISA)-Archbishop Anthony Muheria of Nyeri has set up a humanitarian fund to boost fight against Coronavirus Pandemic.
Speaking while presiding over the launch of the program asked Christians and well-wishers to support the drive that is aimed at helping vulnerable families affected by the pandemic.
“Let us help vulnerable families by providing them with food and other necessities. We welcome donations in all forms,” said the archbishop on April 16.
During Easter Sunday Mass, Archbishop Muheria had appealed to churches and leaders across the country to come out and help the less fortunate in the society during this difficult moment.
He suggested that those volunteering to help should do so in silence and avoid showing off or bragging about what they have donated.
“We have become so selfish and self-centered that when we are asked to help other people during this pandemic the only thing we think of is our business, properties, power, reputation and so forth. This is the time to give one tunic if you have two, shared lunch if you have enough, give rent waiver, donate part of your savings to help others afford food and other basic items,” he said.
Some of the interventions put in place by the government to control the spread of Covid-19 have affected the livelihood of the people. Some have closed businesses while others are unable to meet their daily needs.
The initiative by the Catholic Archdiocese of Nyeri is among many others which have been launched by individuals, corporate organizations, elected leaders and other volunteers to help mitigate severe effects of the pandemic.
