KERICHO, FEBRUARY 21, 2020 (CISA) – Rt. Rev. Alfred Rotich, newly installed bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kericho has expressed interest in working with politicians in the region to discuss matters ethics and good governance.
“I have in a mind a school… it doesn’t have to be a formal classroom discussion because we want to share experience, and I hear the nation is requiring that school. In that school we want to discuss about ethics, about the future, and already by the way, we are writing our notes about our future leaders, we are already looking at their personality, we are looking at how they discuss issues, are they people of peace, are they people of integrity? That school is coming,” he said.
Speaking February 15 during his episcopal installation at Kericho Teachers Training College, Bishop Rotich noted that he had heard the call for the Church to pray, guide and unite with the leaders against the, “common enemies of our society.”
“What I hear is that we need prayers. We need someone to listen to us. We need someone to sit with us and together fight one common enemy. We need to go to our drawing boards and look into the needs of the people. The desired need is for people to sit together for worship and also to discuss about the issues affecting our society,” he said.
The February 15 installation ceremony was attended by 16 bishops, hundreds of men and women religious, thousands of faithful, Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto, and a score of political leaders.
